Palatine is a village in Cook County. Its population was 65,479 as of the 2000 census.
Palatine, like many midwestern villages, owes its existence to the railroad companies that laid track near the area. Palatine started to develop in the 1920s and its population has greatly increased since World War II. In recent years, the village has revitalized its downtown area and the Downtown Palatine Street Fest held in August features live entertainment and plenty of fun. As a suburb of Chicago, Palatine is only a short drive away from the bustling city life but far enough to retain a small town charm. Palatine's official motto is "Where quality is a way of life," a statement that is reflected in the number of services provided in the village. Surrounded by streams and marshland, Palatine is the perfect place to call home.
